Awkward Face Auditions
Audition Info:
AF is holding open auditions. We are looking to add additional actors
to the troupe. Ample performance opportunities are provided. Prior improv training
required. Prior improv performance experience is preferred.
Women, older improvisors
and minorities especially encouraged to audition. We seek to keep a balance in our
troupe and avoid the frat boy improv troupe experience.
Who Are We looking for?
We are looking for women and men that can explore the moment. You should have the
ability to follow the scene rather than lead the scene. Our work is just as often
dramatic as it is comedic.
If you can allow the moment to unfold organically and support what develops we might
be a good fit. We allow the work to be funny or dramatic without trying to force
it in either direction.
You should be comfortable with slow improv and approaching
improv from the standpoint of theater. We perform both short form improv and long
form improv.
We are looking for team players that can commit to the moment, their partner, and the group.
Who We Are:
Our troupe members range in age from twenty something to forty something.
Troupe members come from various backgrounds. Some are actively seeking a career in the performing arts and others troupe members are professionals looking for a creative outlet.
Occupations of troupe members have included: performance artist, small business owner, HR professional, teacher, training executive, therapist, techie, fine artist, carpenter, musician, actor and many others.
Troupe members tend to be good listeners, supportive team plays, and humble performers.
We keep a male to female troupe ratio of 50/50. We avoid “frat” improv and strive to create a supportive and positive troupe environment.
Our Improv:
We subscribe to Del Close’s ideal:
Treat your partner like a poet, artist, and genius.
Our style focuses on the relationship
of the scene. Our work is heavily influenced by Meisner Technique and Viola Spolin’s
Theater Games approach to improv. We emphasis improvisation as theater.
Our shows tend to combine drama and comedy leading to “Dramedy”.

We came to an 8pm Saturday night show of Awkward Face, and it was great. I laughed

I had a great time when I attended the Awkward Face show at 8 pm on Saturday night.
The actors are quick on their feet, and they manage to elicit many hardy laughs from
the audience.

We went tonight for the first time (Saturday to watch Awkward Face) and we laughed
a lot. My brother does improv so I've been to a lot of shows, and these folks were
GOOD.
